The Power of the Witch - Part 2
The No. 1 Angel Witches Need to Know!
Happy Monday, friends! I hope you are well and that you had a good Equinox weekend. In the Northern Hemisphere, we are now officially in the Dark Half of the Year… Woohoo! Pardon the glee but I LOVE autumn!
That said, while I have been sharing quite a lot about the Dark Goddesses over the past few weeks, we are now switching things up and starting a series about the Archangels. The Equinox is all about balance, after all! First out, we have Archangel Gabriel, angelic ruler of the Moon and therefore the most important Angel for Witches to get to know. As we know, all magic is connected to Luna.
In today’s post about Archangel Gabriel, I have included a prayer for invoking their assistance and also a brand new Tarot spread to connect with their guidance. It feels natural to use they/them about Gabriel because their energy is very fluid between the two gender polarities and they seem equally comfortable showing up as male and female.
The (Daily) Power of the Witch - Part 2
If you missed the first part of ‘The Power of the Witch,’ you can catch that HERE. In today’s post, we are going look at the process of empowerment, where to begin and how to stay committed to our path and calling.
Allow me to cut to the chase: Essentially, it’s all about the habits we stick to on a daily basis. Let’s be honest, many (if not most) of us have been guilty of the armchair witch syndrome. We read a lot of books on the craft and live so much in our heads that we more or less imagine ourselves to be witches even though we can’t remember the last time we actually held a ritual or cast a spell. Or maybe we cast a spell on the fly and didn’t write it down so have no way of tracking our progress.
Our disempowering habits (doom scrolling, anyone?) and lack of structure very easily begin to dominate. And then we start feeling guilty which perpetuates bad habits that temporarily soothe us instead of empowering us and creating lasting transformation. If you’re happy to continue as you were, then please stop reading now. However, if you would like things to begin to change, I’m inviting you to read on.
You see, take your power back is all about putting empowering habits and rituals in place.
A Day in the Life of a Witch
The dark half of the year is a perfect time for a habit overhaul. Below, I’m sharing a sample day of habits that you, as the empowered and practising witch could begin to implement. They are for inspiration only—Feel free to come up with your own witchy habits!
Also, nobody is asking you to start doing all of it in one go. It wouldn’t be sustainable. But maybe, just maybe, you could commit to one or two of the habits listed below over the next couple of weeks…
Stick with it and then add one or more witchy habits weekly or monthly until your life is that of a powerful witch. You may not feel super powerful straight away but trust me, if you stick with it, your power will begin to grow and your life will change so much that a year from now, you won’t recognise the old version of yourself!
Morning Ritual
1. Wake up and meditate in bed
2. Drink a glass of blessed water
3. Brew a magical beverage
4. Invocation to the Archangelic ruler of the day and/or prayer to your Deity/Deities
5. Divination for the day ahead
6. Enter your reading and plans (including any spellwork) for the day in your journal/Book of Shadows.
Work Day
6. Take short magical breaks throughout the day to re-centre.
- Breathe deeply to relax, ground and recentre (2-3 minutes every hour)
- Stay hydrated and always bless your water before drinking it
- Perform a quick energy cleansing of your space (5 minutes, midday). If you have no magical tool at hand, remember you always have your voice and your hands. Loud clapping can be very effective in terms of breaking up stale/negative energy.
Reading/Study Session
7. Dedicate 20-30 minutes to reading (after lunch/during your lunch break or after you finish work)
- This could be spiritual texts, books on witchcraft, or any literature that inspires you
Create a cozy, magical reading nook with comfortable seating, good lighting, and some of your favourite magical items.
Use a special bookmark or reading charm to mark your place and infuse your reading with intention.
Consider reading aloud any particularly powerful passages, treating them as incantations or affirmations.
If reading about specific magical practices, take notes or flag pages for future reference in your own practice.
Evening Ritual
8. End your workday with a brief grounding meditation and tending to your altar
9. Cast a spell (optional and you can obviously do this during any time of the day though if you have a day job, the evening is usually easiest)
10. Journal about your day, evaluate the morning reading and include any other magical insights or experiences
Before Bed
11. Create a relaxing bedtime routine incorporating magical elements:
Take a magical bath with herbs or essential oils (optional)
Invoke protection for yourself and your household while you sleep
Set intentions for dream incubation or lucid dreaming (optional)
Remember, the key to maintaining a daily routine is flexibility. Some days you might have more time for certain activities, while other days you may need to adjust. The important thing is to maintain consistency in your practice, even if the duration or timing varies slightly from day to day.
Finally, to understand the impact of creating daily habits that empower you to reach your goals and be the best version of yourself, I highly recommend the life-changing book Atomic Habits by James Clear. Change doesn’t have to be overwhelming. It can be gradual and provide positive reinforcement straight away.
