Thoughts at the Crossroads
Mary Magdalene, the Number 153 and Jupiter in Leo Horoscopes
Preparing for Mary Magdalene’s Feast Day
As I continue preparing for the year-long Christo-Hekatean journey that begins on Mary Magdalene’s Feast Day (22 July), I keep finding myself drawn back to one curious number: 153.
If you’ve ever read the final chapter of John’s Gospel, you’ll remember the miraculous catch of 153 fish after the Resurrection (John 21:11). It’s such a strangely precise number that Christians, mystics and students of biblical symbolism have been pondering its meaning for centuries.
One of the discoveries that delighted me most is that, in Greek isopsephy (the equivalent of Hebrew Gematria), the title “The Magdalene” (ἡ Μαγδαληνή) has the numerical value of 153. Whether this was intentional or providential is impossible to know, but it opens the imagination to some beautiful symbolic connections.
The fish, of course, is one of the earliest symbols of Christ. It also points us towards the Vesica Piscis, or Mandorla: the almond-shaped form created where two circles overlap. Throughout Christian art, this sacred shape frames moments of divine revelation and has long been associated with birth, transformation and the meeting of heaven and earth.
As a Tarot reader, I can’t help noticing the resemblance to the wreath surrounding the dancing figure in The World. Some researchers, including Raylene Abbott, have suggested that this mysterious woman may be understood as Mary Magdalene herself, inviting us into a deeper reading of the final card of the Major Arcana.
Whether or not we accept that interpretation, I find the symbolism deeply moving. Mary Magdalene stands at the threshold between death and resurrection, grief and joy, the old world and the new. She becomes not merely the first witness to the Risen Christ, but a guide for anyone passing through their own season of transformation.
It feels fitting, then, to spend these weeks leading up to her feast day contemplating what it means to become, in the deepest sense, a witness to new life.
Yesterday I published the cornerstone article for this unfolding, exploring Mary Magdalene as Midwife of Souls through a Christo-Hekatean lens. If you’d like to dive deeper into these themes, you can read it here:
Jupiter Enters Leo
While I've been reflecting on Mary Magdalene and preparing for the weeks ahead, the heavens have been marking the beginning of a new cycle.
On Monday this week, the same day as the Capricorn Full Moon here in the UK, Jupiter entered Leo, where the Greater Benefic will remain until 26 July 2027.
Jupiter changes signs only once every twelve months or so, making this one of the most significant astrological shifts of the year. Wherever Leo falls in your birth chart is where you’re being invited to grow with greater confidence, creativity and generosity of spirit over the coming year.
I’ve published a detailed guide exploring this transit, including what it means collectively, how it works with the South Node in Leo, and a Tarot spread to help you work consciously with its gifts and challenges.

For now, though, here are the highlights for each sign. As always, read your Rising sign first if you know your birth time. If not, your Sun sign will still provide helpful guidance.
Your Jupiter in Leo Horoscope
Aries Rising (or Aries Sun)
Joy, Creativity & the Courage to Shine
Jupiter lights up your 5th House, bringing a welcome return of joy, creativity, romance and playful self-expression. If life has felt overly serious recently, this is your invitation to reconnect with whatever makes your heart sing.
Creative projects flourish now, and if children are part of your life, they may become an even greater source of blessing or inspiration. Romance also receives Jupiter’s generous touch.
The South Node asks you to stop seeking applause for its own sake. Create because you love creating. Love because your heart is open. Let joy become the goal rather than recognition.
Affirmation: I follow what makes me feel most alive.
Taurus Rising (or Taurus Sun)
Building a Life That Nourishes You
For you, Jupiter blesses the 4th House of home, family and emotional foundations. This can coincide with moving house, improving your living space or finding a deeper sense of belonging.
You may feel inspired to create a home that truly reflects who you are rather than simply serving practical needs. Healing old family patterns is also strongly supported.
The challenge is balancing public responsibilities with your need for peace and security. Sometimes the greatest success begins by creating a sanctuary within.
Affirmation: I build my life from the inside out.
Gemini Rising (or Gemini Sun)
Finding Your Voice
Jupiter energises your 3rd House of communication, learning and local connections. This is an excellent year for writing, teaching, studying, podcasting or expanding your online presence.
Your words carry extra weight now. Conversations open doors, and ideas that have been quietly developing may finally find their audience.
The South Node asks you to release limiting stories about yourself. Speak with confidence, even while you’re still growing into the person you’re becoming.
Affirmation: My voice is one of my greatest gifts.
Cancer Rising (or Cancer Sun)
Growing Your Resources
Jupiter moves through your 2nd House of income, talents and self-worth, helping you recognise the value of what you already possess.
New income streams may emerge, particularly through creative work or long-held skills that deserve wider recognition. This transit often increases confidence alongside financial opportunities.
Avoid measuring success through appearances alone. Lasting prosperity comes from building something meaningful rather than simply impressive.
Affirmation: As I honour my gifts, abundance flows naturally.
Leo Rising (or Leo Sun)
Your Jupiter Return
This is one of the most important transits of the next twelve years. Jupiter enters your 1st House, beginning a fresh cycle of growth, confidence and personal expansion.
Others naturally notice you during this period. Opportunities often arise simply because you’re willing to be seen.
Yet with the South Node also travelling through Leo, you’re invited to release outdated versions of yourself. Let go of the need to prove your worth. Your light shines brightest when it comes from authenticity rather than performance.
Affirmation: I allow myself to become fully who I am.
Virgo Rising (or Virgo Sun)
Quiet Blessings
Jupiter enters your 12th House, bringing healing that often begins beneath the surface before becoming visible to others.
This is a beautiful period for spiritual practice, dream work, therapy, meditation and releasing old emotional burdens. Hidden blessings frequently arrive during 12th House Jupiter transits.
You may also be preparing something significant behind the scenes that will emerge more publicly next year.
Affirmation: Rest is sacred work.
Libra Rising (or Libra Sun)
Your Soul Tribe
Jupiter brings expansion to your 11th House of friendships, communities and future aspirations.
This is an excellent time to meet like-minded people, collaborate on meaningful projects and discover communities where you feel genuinely supported.
Some friendships may naturally fade as your vision for the future evolves. Trust that every ending creates space for more aligned connections.
Affirmation: I walk with those who encourage my highest potential.
Scorpio Rising (or Scorpio Sun)
Stepping Into Your Calling
Jupiter reaches the very top of your chart, blessing career, reputation and long-term achievement.
Recognition often comes more easily now, particularly if you’ve been quietly building towards an important goal. Leadership opportunities may appear unexpectedly.
The South Node reminds you not to define yourself solely by success. Let your work express your heart rather than your ego.
Affirmation: I lead through heartfelt purpose.
Sagittarius Rising (or Sagittarius Sun)
Expanding Your Horizons
Your ruling planet moves through your 9th House, making this one of the most inspiring transits you’ll experience.
Travel, study, teaching, publishing and spiritual exploration are all strongly favoured. Your understanding of life may expand just as dramatically as your physical horizons.
If you’ve felt confined, this transit reminds you that every season of waiting prepares you for a larger adventure.
Affirmation: I follow the path that broadens my mind and opens my heart.
Capricorn Rising (or Capricorn Sun)
The Courage to Transform
Jupiter illuminates your 8th House of intimacy, shared resources and deep personal transformation.
Old fears lose their grip as you become more willing to trust both yourself and others. Financial support may also arrive through partnerships, investments or shared ventures.
This isn’t always the easiest Jupiter transit, but it can be among the most healing. What once felt overwhelming gradually becomes a source of wisdom.
Affirmation: I trust the transformation already unfolding.
Aquarius Rising (or Aquarius Sun)
Meaningful Partnerships
Jupiter blesses your 7th House of relationships, attracting supportive people into your life.
Whether in love, business or friendship, partnerships become powerful catalysts for growth. Existing relationships often deepen, while new ones can open unexpected doors.
Allow others to help you. Independence remains one of your strengths, but genuine collaboration can take you further than going it alone.
Affirmation: Healthy relationships help me become more fully myself.
Pisces Rising (or Pisces Sun)
Everyday Magic
Jupiter brings fresh energy to your 6th House of work, health and daily routines.
Small improvements made consistently now can produce remarkable long-term results. You may discover greater satisfaction in your work or develop healthier habits that genuinely support your wellbeing.
If you’ve been running on empty, this transit reminds you that caring for yourself is never a distraction from your purpose.
Affirmation: Small daily acts of magic create a magical life.

Are there any other people or sources you know of that use July 22 as the beginning of the year of Hekate/Jesus?
I have always been curious about the number 153 in that verse! Sometimes textual historians use "improbability" as a test for which parts of the Bible they think are more authentic or original. I always thought, "What is the likelihood that somebody just made up the number 153?" The distinctiveness of that figure made me feel like that episode was more likely to be based on an actual event...
